FRANKLIN, Tenn. –
A Franklin mother is planning to run the Arizona Ironman Triathlon this weekend in honor of fallen soldiers and their families.
Amy Cotta told News 2 her son Cpl. Tyler Zych joined the military immediately after completing high school.
“When he left high school and straight into the military, I had separation anxiety,” Cotta recalled.
While her son hasn’t been deployed to Afghanistan, she knows of many mothers who’s sons and daughters served, but didn’t make it home.
“It’s a very emotional journey for me because as a mom, I cannot imagine any worse,” Cotta said.
Just four years ago Cotta said she learned how to swim. On Saturday she will swim 2.4 miles, before participating in a 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile marathon.
“[I’m] just trying to bring about awareness and to get others, as the military likes to call, ‘civvies’ to get off the couch and get moving for a cause and hopefully that cause would be for our military,” Cotta said.
