Occupation: Certified Personal Trainer & Certified Nutritionist
Where are you from?: Nashville, TN
Who or what inspired you to lace up?: My initial inspiration came from simply sitting and listening to the stories Amy [Cotta] would share about her son Tyler leaving for basic training. Rather than allowing her emotions to overcome her, she harvested all of her energy into something that would give other families an outlet to share their stories as well as give back to those who are serving in our armed forces.
What challenge or event did you perform in boots? I decided to perform one of my favorite plyometric exercises, box jumps. I started out performing standard box jumps, which involves bounding and landing on two feet. To up the ante, I decided to take a step further and perform single leg box jumps. This involves bounding and landing on one foot.
What did you learn or take away from your experience? Did it change your perspective or have an emotional impact on you?: Although I come from a military family, I didn’t have an emotional connection because my family members served long before I was born. The more time that I spent getting to know Amy, the more I began to realize how blessed and fortunate I was to have my family still here with me.
Is there anything you would like to say or share with our military men and women?: There truly are not enough words to express the type/amount of gratitude that I have for our service men and women. It takes an insurmountable amount of courage to leave behind your family and everything that you know and step in to the unknown to protect the rights and freedoms of people you will never meet. I pray that God protect and cover you as you serve; That He would grant you the stamina to keep going when you feel like giving up, and that your loved ones would be given peace that surpasses all understanding. Thank you for your selfless act of devotion to our country.
